The Project

The second phase of section A of the Rhine – Rhône East branch from Genlis and Villers-les-Pots (15 km) included:

  • a link to the normal railway to the west
  • a link to the high-speed line to the east
  • an exceptional engineering structure crossing the A39 motorway and the Tille River
  • a lateral beam bridge crossing the Norges River
  • 14 standard engineering structures
  • 123 hydraulic structures
  • 5 reservoirs
  • volume of excavated earth: 1.3 million m³
  • volume of backfill: 0.7 million m³
  • noble meterials: 0.8 million m³

Challenges

Project owner
SNCF RESEAU

Period
2010 – 2013

Challenge
The project involved a slanted bridge across the A39 motorway and the Tille River. The work combined considerable constraints (maintaining road traffic and preserving the river during construction work) with atypical technical specifications (a mixed steel-concrete single-span part and a flying junction part with a very steep 15% slope).

The Assignment

RFF (the former name for SNCF Réseau) commissioned setec to provide civil engineering design services, as well as assistance with the procurement process. setec als also handled water regulation documents, along with an application for exemption from protected species regulation (CNPN).
